Chelsea are one of the six clubs to have played all 25 seasons in the history of the Premier League. Over the years the Blues have scored some stunning and dramatic goals.
Antonio Conte’s side have made an excellent recovery from their opening game by beating both Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, with many English Premier League predictions now suggesting Chelsea will win the 2017-18 Premier League.
Looking back over the previous 25 seasons, here are some of Chelsea’s best goals in the Premier League:
Gus Poyet vs Sunderland (4-0 7 August 1999)
Gus Poyet scored this stunning volley on the opening day of the 1999-2000 season in a 4-0 thrashing of Sunderland. This was long before the Roman Abramovich era so the fifth-place finish for the Blues was a good effort this season. Sunderland had Kevin Phillips firing in 30 goals for them and finished 7th.
Michael Essien vs Arsenal (1-1 10 December 2006)
Michael Essien salvaged a point in the final 10 minutes against Arsenal with this stunning strike in what was Ashley Cole’s first match versus his former club. It left the Blues eight points behind leaders Manchester United who would go on to win the title.
Eden Hazard vs Arsenal (3-1 4 February 20017)
Eden Hazard received the ball on the halfway line and simply ran out the Arsenal defence, shrugging off Francis Coquelin and beating Laurent Koscielny twice before tucking the ball past Petr Cech.
Didier Drogba vs Everton (3-2 17 December 2006)
Chelsea scored twice in the final 10 minutes to come from behind and win at Goodison Park. Three points were sealed with this sumptuous half volley from Didier Drogba in the 87th minute.
Belletti vs Middlesbrough (5-0 18 October 2008)
Juliano Belletti didn’t score too many goals for Chelsea but this screamer in the 5-0 thrashing of Middlesbrough was certainly one to remember. The Brazilian’s long-range effort made it 2-0 early in the second half before Chelsea ran riot on Boro.
Ricardo Carvalho vs Tottenham (1-0 7 April 2007)
Chelsea kept their bleak title hopes alive in 2006-07 thanks to this 30-yard effort from Ricardo Carvalho. The Portuguese centre-back’s goal proved to be the only one of the game.
Didier Drogba vs Bolton (4-0 24 January 2011)
Chelsea were battling for a top four finish at the start of 2011 and Didier Drogba got them on their way with this audacious 30-yard effort that opened the scoring at the Reebok Stadium.
Didier Drogba vs Liverpool (1-0 17 September 2006)
Chelsea picked up an important three points early in the 2006-07 season with a 1-0 victory over rivals Liverpool. Didier Drogba scored the only goal of the game when he chested the ball down on the edge of the area with his back to goal, swivelled and fired it home left-footed.
Frank Lampard vs Hull City (3-0 29 October 2008)
Frank Lampard looked very casual with his awesome left-footed lob from 20 yards across goal into the far post to give Chelsea the lead at the KC Stadium.
Deco vs Bolton Wanderers (2-0 7 December 2008)
Deco scored this sublime overhead kick to secure three points at the Reebok Stadium in December 2008 following a nice headed pass from Michael Ballack.
