Ajax youngster, Anwar El-Ghazi has attracted interest from three of Europe’s top clubs, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Atletico Madrid [De Telegraf]. El-Ghazi is 20 years of age, and plays as an attacking midfielder. He has made appearances on the Dutch National Team, on the U-17, U-18, and U-20 sides. He has made 23 appearances for Ajax’s senior team, and has scored nine goals and assisted eight. Rumors have it that all three clubs, Bayern, Chelsea and Atletico will send scouts to watch El-Ghazi at the Toulon U-20 tournament later this month. El-Ghazi will most likely impress, especially on the U-20 side. It is surprising that Manchester United are not looking to signing him, after recently signing Memphis Depay from PSV, and the fact that Louis van Gaal was the Dutch National Team manager for quite some time.

El-Ghazi would be a great signing for Chelsea. Mourinho has an eye for young talent, and at one point last season, he had 26 players out at loan, that’s a whole extra team. Ajax is reported unwilling to part ways with their young star. If Chelsea was impressed by El-Ghazi’s performance at the Toulon tournament, then they will do their best to outbid Atletico and Bayern, but El-Ghazi would be sent back to Ajax on loan for a season or two while he matures and sharpens his game. It wouldn’t be surprising at all if that was indeed the scenario, which we saw with Thorgan Hazard, Lucas Piazon, and Bertrand Traoré.

But Bayern is looking for a youngster to replace Frank Ribery, according to their Sporting Director, when he was asked about a potential signing of Eden Hazard to replace this Frenchman.

“Bayern would never sign a player like Eden Hazard. He would cost between €70 million and €80m and that is a lot of money even for Bayern. They would rather sign a 17-year-old or an 18-year-old who would cost €5m or so.”

Hopefully El-Ghazi avoids the temptation to stay in his native nation, and the lucrative contracts that will be offered to him by Atletico and Bayern, and decide that his future is at Chelsea.
