After First Medical Is Done, Striker Set To Sign For Chelsea – Not Nathan

Kenedy-of-Fluminense

The amount of young Brazilians that Chelsea has been linked to is ridiculous, even though it seems that the signings never come through. The most recent failure was Nathan, the teenage Brazilian starlet that tweeted he was ready to sign for Chelsea; all he had to do was pass his medical. That fell through, which was disappointing news to Chelsea supporters.

The main reason is because just hearing the name Chelsea brings joy to Brazilian youngsters. The player’s dream of playing at Stamford Bridge, even Neymar claimed that he played as Chelsea on his PlayStation before making his move to Barcelona. This is most likely due to the success of multiple South Americans in London, and South American agents see bags of money when they hear the name Chelsea being interested in their client. And smaller South American clubs get over excited when Chelsea comes calling for a prospect, expecting millions of pounds and large transfer fees, but more often than not the player involved will become property of an investment company, big agents, or even his family.

This seems to be the case with Brazilian teenager, Kenedy. The 19 year-old striker has impressed Chelsea scouts with his performances on the U-17 and U-20 Brazilian international teams, scoring a combined 7 goals in 20 appearances. He currently plays on Fluminense’s senior squad, and has made 36 appearances, scoring five goals so far. With the need of another striker, Mourinho could look to Kenedy as a stop gap while Patrick Bamford and Dom Solanke look to mature their game.

Kenedy could turn into a star, and with a rumored fee of only £5.5million, he could be worth the effort, with little risk. He would most likely be loaned out for a few years, and if he is good enough for the Chelsea first team, then Mourinho will promote him, but if he isn’t he will be sold to a smaller club.

Kenedy could be seen as Didier Drogba’s replacement, with Drogba’s rumored move to the MLS, and with fitness issues surrounding Loïc Rémy and Diego Costa, Mourinho will have add another striker this summer.
