Agent confirms Chelsea watching prolific young striker

Chelsea are rumoured to be after Dutch sensation Ricky van Wolfswinkel of Sporting Lisbon. His agent has admitted that some clubs are currently trying to chase his signature.

“I know that Manchester United and Chelsea are watching him, but that is not unusual because they are watching all the best young players in Europe,” the player’s agent Louis Laros said.

“I have not spoken to anyone about his future. At the moment any interest is only rumours and nothing more.”

The 22-year-old is a versatile player, who can play both as an attacking midfielder or a striker, although he prefers the latter position.

Chelsea’s interest in van Wolfswinkel would certainly be a welcoming news for all Blues fans. A talented youngster who has already represented the Netherlands at the international level, his form in the Portugese league has also been dazzling. 7 goals in 9 league games is probably sufficient evidence to show why he has attracted interest from many European clubs.

Despite only signing for Sporting Lisbon just 4 months ago, with a 5-year contract, van Wolfswinkel’s immense potential and young age will certainly prove him to be a worthy investment in the long run, serving to rejuvenate the ageing squad of Chelsea. With a large proportion of players above 30, Chelsea could need such young blood to add a young spark to the squad.
