Chelsea consider Fellaini swoop, but is Lampard's replacement closer to home?

Chelsea are once again being linked with making a move for Marouane Felliani, with the Belgian available for around £23Million due to a clause in his contract.

Fellaini has made it distinctly obvious that he wishes to play Champions League football, and has proved, this season especially, that he belongs in Europe’s elite club competition.

Manchester United along with the current Champions League holders have been continually linked with the 25 year-old, and I believe his departure from Everton to be likely come the end of the season.

Chelsea will continually be linked with players, but the stars who fail to get a mention are the players already at the club, spending time gaining first team experience on loan.

Kevin De Bruyne is a very highly rated young midfielder, whose favoured position is in the centre of midfield but can also play anywhere across the midfield. He is currently wanted by German outfit Borussia Dortmund for around £15Million, but I think we would be fools to let him leave. He is young and extremely talented, and I believe he would be an instant hit in the Premier League.

We also cannot forget that Josh McEachran is currently on-loan at Middlesborough, and has been impressing for the Championship outfit. He is in not quite ready to step into Frank Lampard’s boots but has the potential to be our next great English midfielder. He might have to wait a year or two…

Last but not least, we have Nathaniel Chalobah on loan at Watford this season, who is still only 18. He is being tipped to play a key role for England U21’s in the upcoming European Championship this summer. He is a versatile midfielder, who can also be utilized in defence, who has recently been targeted by Arsenal. We cannot afford to let the best young English talents leave our club without being given their chance. Rumour has it we our set to offer Nathaniel a long term deal at the club.

Do we really need to buy more central midfielders? I would bring De Bruyne into our playing squad for next season, and concentrate our interest in replacing Fernando Torres, and look into acquiring a young central midfielder. Real Madrid’s Raphaele Varane is an exceptional talent but would be near impossible to buy. I would like us to tempt the waters with a £15Million bid though…

Players like Felleini and Chilobah are NOT replacement ‘type’ players for someone like Franky Lampard (who still has a good couple of seasons left in him by the way!). If you want a true direct comparison for a young Frank Lampard Chelsea need look no further than their own under 18’s team and the excellent John Swift. Swift’s goal in our Youth Cup Semi final win at the Bridge against Liverpool last Friday had Frank Lampard written all over it. This lad has been doing it now for a few seasons for the Chelsea youth set up and is blossoming into one hell of a player. Chelsea just need a Manager that will gradually integrate some of our own excellent youngters into the first team set up.
