According to football news express, Spain la Liga side Atletico Madrid have tabled an offer of £15.8m for Chelsea defender Filipe Luis. The high rated left-back joined Chelsea last summer alongside Diego Costa but while Diego Costa has gone on to become a very important player for Chelsea, Filipe has been a bit part player for the club.
Cesar Azpilicueta has practically made the left-back position his own which has ensured the Brazilian is fiddled out of the first team for Chelsea. According to the reports, the Brazilian has confirmed to his friend Joao Miranda who is currently Altetico Madrid’s vice captain of his desire to leave Chelsea next summer for a return back to the La Liga a year after he left which a return to Atletico Madrid a big possibility.
Although the report claims Atletico Madrid will be willing to pay £15.8m for the player, it remains to be seen if the Spanish club will be willing to pay for such an amount for a player who has been a bench-warmer for Chelsea. In my opinion, Chelsea will find it difficult to recoup 100% of the amount of money they paid last summer to acquire the services of the Brazilian. Although you could argue that Chelsea got £50m or there about for David Luis but then, Atletico Madrid do not have half as much money as PSG.
Also, it is hard to see Chelsea selling the player considering the fact that he is the only reliable back up for Azpilicueta. Unless Mourinho brings in another left-back in the summer, Atletico Madrid’s bid to sign is very likely to become to nothing.
