In a news that will delight Chelsea fans but get Tottenham fans worried, Chelsea are reportedly readying a bid for premier league’s current highest goal scorer Harry Kane. According to daily mail, Chelsea will table a big money offer for the Englishman once the summer transfer window is opened on July 1. This bid the paper claims Chelsea hope it will be good enough to force Tottenham into selling the premier league revelation of the season.
Harry Kane, 21, has been one of the premier league best players this season. He has scored a total of 30 goals and assisted 4 other goals in a total of 34 games for Tottenham in all competition so far this season. According to the paper, Jose Mourinho will be in the market for another striker in the summer as Didier Drogba is very unlikely to get a contract renewal.
Aside Drogba leaving, the fact that Diego Costa and Loic Remy are both injury prone strikers seems to be a factor. However, it remains to be seen if Mourinho will actually try to sign Harry Kane considering he is very likely to cost at least £40m based on the fact that he is English and he is premier league highest goal scorer ahead of our own very Diego Costa.
Although player power may help Chelsea sign the player if Jose Mourinho truly wants him, Tottenham are very likely to be reluctant to sell the player to any club in the premier league unless the player really wants the move and is really to play dirty to get his wish. Luka Modric saga of yesteryears comes to mind here.
However, in my opinion, considering we already have Diego Costa, we do not need Harry Kane who is going to be overly expensive and will want first team football but a signing such as his will send a signal of intent to not just Chelsea’s premier league rivals but as well as other clubs in Europe.
Harry Kane alongside Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho Manchester United’s David De Gea and our own Eden Hazard have been nominated for the PFA player of the year award.
