The summer transfer window is still some months away, and we have started reading and hearing for all kinds of reports and rumours concerning movement of players. Some of these rumours and reports are so hilarious and ridiculous that one begins to wonder what is on the minds of the one initiated it. One of the rumours that made a lot of laugh last week was the one linking Oscar with a move to Madrid in a possible swap deal that will involve Modric moving the other way to Chelsea.
The rumour was initiated by FIFA agent Francis Gallardo, who claimed the move was possible as the Chelsea boss would prefer a swap deal that will see Modric joining us while Oscar goes the other way.
This is one of the most hilarious rumours I have heard in recent times as I am not sure the boss would be interested in bringing Modric to the Bridge when he has players like Nemanja Matic and Ramirez already in the team. Matic for one, has slotted in fine into the team since arriving in January, and it remains to be seen what a Modric would bring that we don’t already have at the moment.
Modric is no doubt one of the standout performers in the current Madrid team, and was in fact instrumental to the successes achieved by Harry Redknapp during his term at Spurs. However, to have suggested a swap deal was in the mind of Mourinho when he already has Matic who is already running things in the midfield makes me wonder if Gallardo is not just speaking as an agent.
Madrid of course, won’t want to let Modric go for any amount having seen him help Gareth Bale settle in the club since his arrival in the summer. Both former Spurs players have been very instrumental to the success of the Carlo Ancelotti team this season, and the thought of a swap deal cannot be said to be true.
Modric and Matic are too similar in their style of play, and that means the transfer is not going to happen anytime soon.
