Rafael Benitez gets to work- Zenden new Chelsea assistant manager

Rafa Benitez has not wasted any time in shuffling the Chelsea back-room, with the Ex-Chelsea winger Boudewijn ‘Bolo’ Zenden coming in to work under Benitez.

This appears to be bad news for Eddie Newton and Steve Holland, who look like they’ll be following their manager Roberto Di Matteo out the exit door.

Neither staff member has been sacked as of yet but Newton’s at least looks inevitable following Zenden’s arrival.

The Ex-Stamford Bridge favourite, Zenden played under Benitez at Liverpool, and is about to take up his first coaching role since his retirement from playing.

Bolo Zenden has an extensive knowledge of football, as well as plenty of experience of playing in the Premier League, spending almost 9 years here as well as a number of years playing at Barcelona and PSV repsectively.

At Chelsea we have had some top experienced assistants at Chelsea in the shape of Ray Wilkins and Steve Clarke in recent years, so to see Rafa bring in Zenden who has no coaching experience is a big risk, that we will all be hoping pays off. Nobody can fault the Dutch assistants playing career, hopefully he can continue that into his coaching career…
