The Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard played out of his skin as Chelsea walloped Aston Villa 7-1 on Saturday, scoring four goals to take him over 150 for the club, a phenomenal return for a midfielder. He has scored 20 or more for the last five seasons and the ex-Liverpool legend Jamie Redknapp was extremely impressed with him this week.
Redknapp said in his weekly column in the Daily Mail: “Player of the weekend has to be Frank Lampard. That’s five goals for the week, including four on Saturday. Just brilliant! He’s regularly a 20-goal-a-season midfielder, who is an exemplary modern footballer. The formation Chelsea played suits too, with him just off the front behind Nicolas Anelka, allowing him to pounce on chances in the penalty area.”
If Chelsea can repeat that performance at Old Trafford next week, then they will return to being favourites for the Premiership title.
Come on you Blues!
