Terry is still Chelsea captain but begins his 4 game ban today at Spurs

Chelsea decided to punish John Terry after the FA found him guilty of racial abuse towards Anton Ferdinand of QPR and Terry decided not to appeal. The club announced that they would punish him but would not reveal the extent of that punishment to the media.

Terry misses the first of four matches today, but the club have revealed, after much questioning, that he will not be banned for any more than the FA decided. He will also keep the club captaincy but will receive at least ” a very heavy fine.”

Chelsea have told the media that they have taken into account both the FA verdict and the one from the criminal court and so the punishment is somewhere in the middle. Hopefully the newspapers can find somebody else to focus on now and everybody can move on. It has taken a ridiculous amount of time.

Chelsea travel to White Hart Lane today without Terry in defence and well aware that their former manager Andres Villas-Boas will be desperate to get one over on us. The Blues have a four point gap at the top of the table but we don’t want to lose it, especially not to Tottenham.
