The left back position seems to be problematic for Chelsea and they can’t seem to get it right. A right back, Cesar Azpilicueta has been used regularly in that position for the last two seasons and he does an admirable job but it will be preferred if he is moved to his natural position to replace the ageing Serbian, Branislav Ivanovic while a natural left back plays in the position.
Every of Chelsea’s attempt to do this has failed, Filipe Luis seemed not to be trusted by Mourinho and he was on his way back to Athletico Madrid after a single season and it was a known fact that Chelsea were looking for a left back in the summer to fill the void. One of the players linked with the Blues was Alex Telles who was with Galatasaray but a deal failed to materialize and the full back ended up sealing a season long loan deal to Inter Milan. Chelsea eventually got Baba Rahman from Augsburg but the player has been out of his depth which has led to the continued use of Azpilicueta at left back even after Jose Mourinho left.
If as expected, Rahman moves on at the end of the season, Chelsea are again expected to move for a left back and one of the players that is sure to be considered is Brazilian Alex Telles. This was confirmed by the player’s agent in an interview with Ajansspor. Fernando Otto, his agent said, ‘Chelsea expressed an interest over the summer and have monitored him’.
The Blues faithful will be hoping a deal can be completed for the talented left back and get the problem position sorted once and for all.
