Tottenham still had a very faint hope of finishing third ahead of their great rivals Arsenal, and they put out their strongest team out against already relegated Burnley at Turf Moor.
Gareth Bale put them ahead very early, and when Modric made it two on the half-hour with a great strike it looked all over bar the shouting.

Burnley were finally relegated today as Liverpool over-ran them at Turf Moor. Steven Gerrard scored the first two and then Maxi Rodriguez and Ryan Babel finished them off, to give Liverpool some confidence ahead of their return leg against Atletico Madrid in midweek, and the grudge match against League leaders Chelsea next weekend.
Both managers only had praise for the Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. Brian Laws said: “The scoreline doesn’t reflect the performance,”

Burnley manager Owen Coyle is over the moon after taking another big Premiership scalp today. The 1-0 win over Everton follows quickly after the win over the Premiership Champions Man Utd with the same scoreline. But in both games their opponents missed a penalty which would have been the equalizer.
Now they are facing anoyther difficult tie next week at Stamford Bridge, but Coyle has promised that he will still carry on with Burnleys attacking play.

The Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is finding it hard to believe that a team like Man Utd could lose to the newly-promoted Burnley, but he accepts that the Premiership is a lot more difficult than any other league in the world.
But he says that Chelsea just have to ignore what is going on with the other teams in the League and just concentrate on winning their own games.

Frank Lampard equalled Jimmy Greaves record of goals scored for Chelsea the other night, but is more concerned about winning trophies with the Blues than getting personal accolades. He is now up to joint fifth with Greaves in the Chelsea records, and i am sure he will carry on climbing in the next few seasons.
He said today: “I’m delighted with that, Jimmy is a goalscoring legend and I’m sure he did it in a lot less games than I did.
