Mutu wants Juventus to help pay Chelsea fine 0

Adrian Mutu’s agent, Giovanni Becali, thinks that Juventus should pay the lions share of the fine imposed on his client, as they received a £13m player for nothing when he signed on as a free agent after being sacked by Chelsea.

Becali told calciomercato.com: “I believe Mutu has to give back the money he earned at Chelsea,”

“But the rest should be paid by Juventus,Livorno and the Moggi family (Mutu’s former agent Alessandro Moggi).”

The disgraced ex-Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu is not happy that the Court of Arbitration for Sport has upheld the £17.4m fine handed down by FIFA after he was caught taking cocaine while under contract to Chelsea, and he intends to carry on fighting against the decision.

“I cannot fail to exercise my right to criticise a sentence that appears profoundly unjust,” he said.

Chelsea have gone to the trouble to issue an official response to the decision by CAS to reject Adrian Mutu’s appeal. Here is the statement in full, published on their website:

Chelsea has released the following statement:
‘Chelsea welcomes the decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport to dismiss the appeal by Adrian Mutu and uphold the financial award by FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber in favour of the club.
‘This vindicates all of our actions throughout this case.’

The ongoing case of Chelsea v Adrian Mutu has finally reached a conclusion, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport has decided that he must pay the full £14.6m compensation owed to his old club.

After rejecting all the legal arguments put forward in Mutu’s defence, the CAS issued this statement: “In his appeal to the CAS, Adrian Mutu sought to set aside the DRC decision and establish that no compensation was due to be paid by him to Chelsea FC.

It is likely that Chelsea are going to be awarded £13.68m in compensation from Adrian Mutu on Friday when the final ruling on his appeal will be announced.

Mutu was signed for £15m in 2003 but just a year later he was tested positive for cocaine, sacked by Chelsea and given a seven month ban from football.
