Chelsea Football Club have today confirmed that left-back Ashley Cole has signed a one-year extension to his current deal, which was set to expire at the end of the season.

Cole had firmly expected to leave at the end of the season, along with Blues legend Frank Lampard, following rumours that the Chelsea hierarchy were unwilling to offer the 32 year-old a new deal.

The 99-cap England defender’s agent was in Madrid for talks over a possible move to Jose Mourinho’s current club, Real Madrid, at the end of the season. He has also been linked with reunions with Ex-Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti at Paris Saint-Germain but has decided he would rather stay exactly where he is for now.

Cole said: ‘I am pleased I will be starting my eighth season at Chelsea. I have great memories here and I enjoy coming to training every day. The staff are amazing and I enjoy training with the lads.

‘I have been able to fulfil nearly all my ambitions at Chelsea. I have won the Champions League, the League, I have won FA Cups here but of course you don’t want to stop winning trophies and being at a big club, you are always fighting to win a trophy.

‘Being here for seven years and being at Arsenal before that playing for trophies, you never lose that hunger. I wanted to stay at Chelsea because we are always fighting and challenging for trophies. That desire and the will to want to win things have not gone.’

We will all be happy to see the best left-back around staying at Stamford Bridge for another season, and are now hoping Frank Lampard will be next. There was no possible player who could replace Cole’s ability or influence on the team so for me it was a no-brainer. Well done Roman, now all we want is you to hurry up and extend Lampard’s contract, and confirm Rafa Benitez will not be staying on beyond the summer.

Ex-Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has started the mind games early in the battle for third place, with the Portuguese manager claiming Chelsea have no long-term plans.

The Spurs boss was sacked after only 9 months into a 5 year deal, in which he had been promised time to build his own team to fit his fluent and attacking style of play.

The manager was subject to speculation that he had lost the confidence and control of his team, with the term player-power being blamed for his departure.

“There are no plans at Chelsea,” AVB is quoted as saying in The Sun. “It’s results that rule. There are times in football when it’s easier to replace the coach, but when you embrace a project you believe in people.

“There was a commitment from Abramovich and his word was given, yet there was a premature departure.”

He appears to be having a much better time with things at London rival’s Tottenham Hotspur, who currently sit in 3rd place, above Chelsea having played a game more.

On Spurs, Villas-Boas added: “We’re achieving what we’ve been asked to achieve, we’re still in the Europa League and third in the Premier League.”

This is sour grapes to say the least. He was the manager, and he failed to prove to the team that he was the boss. If the players cant respect you then why should we? You failed at Chelsea, and was lucky to be given another chance. I think AVB should concentrate on his own job…

Chelsea are surprisingly willing to pay Daniel Sturridge £1.5Million to make sure the unwanted striker leaves the club.

Chelsea are rumoured to have agreed a £12M+ deal with Liverpool, and the England international underwent a medical yesterday.

Liverpool are expected to confirm his capture in the next 24 hours, with the striker joining Liverpool on January 1.

Liverpool are firmly expected to follow up their interest in Ex-Liverpool winger Tom Ince next, in a deal thought to cost Liverpool around £6million.

Chelsea felt they needed to pay the Liverpool-bound forward the fee, after the Ex-Man City player indicated he would be willing to stay at Chelsea to fight his way into the team. The fee will also act as a sweetener to the deal, after the deal hit a hiccup last week over agent fees.

Daniel Sturridge has failed to make a impact at Chelsea this season, making only 1 Premier League start, and has suffered with various injuries over the past 6 months.

Chelsea will look to invest the money into buying a striker or two in January, with Radamel Falcao top of Roman Abramovich’s wish-list.

I don’t think Sturridge was given a fair chance this season, but if the player is injury-prone then it is definitely good business. When Torres was really struggling for form, Sturridge was unavailable, and Chelsea will need to bolster their attack in January.

I hope we land Falcao, as I think he will improve our options in attack immensely. He is the best no.9 in the world and could propel Chelsea to the top of English football again.

Daniel Sturridge was hoping to be able to travel to Anfield for a medical this week, but it is reported that Liverpool’s representatives have had a disagreement over his agent fees.

Liverpool are supposedly cutting down the fees that they pay to agents, after a report recently revealed that since the 08/09 season, they have paid a huge £31.3million with only Chelsea (£31.8m) and Manchester City (£39.02m) having paid more.

Daniel Sturridge has been put high on Brendan Rodgers wish-list for January, and is widely expected to join him at Liverpool, regardless of the current situation.

Chelsea and Liverpool are in advanced talks, and the Blues have given Sturridge permission to talk to the Merseysider club over a possible move.

The England squad member has been out out of favour at Stamford Bridge this season, starting just one game in all competitions, and Chelsea have apparently told the player he can leave.

The West London club are expected to be very active during the January window, with Roman Abramovich apparently sanctioning a £100million kitty, half of which will be set aside for the pursuit of Radamel Falcao, who has a £48million release fee.

It is a shame that Sturridge is expected to leave, as I had expected him to be given more of a chance considering he was in blistering form last season. I know the player has suffered with various injuries but even when he was fit, he only graced the bench. Falcao will no doubt hit the floor running in a Chelsea shirt, if Roman can persuade him to leave Athletico. I believe Sturridge will be a hit at Liverpool, and don’t blame him for wanting to leave considering his lack of first team opportunities available in such a big time in his career. Will any of you feel animosity towards the Ex-Manchester City striker should he play against us at Stamford Bridge?

Long-time Chelsea target Radamel Falcao scored five goals in Athletico Madrid’s 6-0 win over Deportivo on Saturday night.

This is the first time a player has scored five La Liga goals in 10 years, when Fernando Morientes scored 5 in Real Madrid’s 7-0 win over Las Palmas.

Falcao was rampant, scoring four goals with his deadly right foot, and one with his head. Watch for yourself…

“I scored five in a game when I was little in Bogota,” Radamel Falcao told Atletico Madrid’s official website. “And I got four playing for Porto against Villarreal but never five as a professional.”

“I was very excited when I came to Atletico Madrid. It was a personal challenge to play in this great league with such a lot of good players.

“I am enjoying it. I have a great squad around me who are supporting me and helping me a great deal to develop as a professional.”

Falcao has now scored 16 goals in 15 appearances in La Liga this season, 3 more than Cristiano Ronaldo and 7 less than the amazing Lionel Messi, helping Athletico to second in the table.

Luis Suarez is a menace to defences, Van Persie is deadly accurate and Aguero always seems to be in the right position. Falcao is all of these things.

The Colombian has a £48Million buy-out clause in his contract, which I would say is cheap, for one of the best players in the world.

I believe he could work well with Fernando Torres, who has struggled for form this season. We cannot afford to put all our faith in the inconsistent Torres, and can’t risk losing out on Falcao to one of our rivals. I’m hoping Roman Abramovich is on the same wave-length…

Andriy Shevchenko is being lined up as a possible member of Chelsea’s backroom staff.

The recently retired Ukrainian has spent considerable time at the club’s Cobham training base as he works towards qualifying for his coaching badges.

Owner Roman Abramovich has held talks with the 36-year-old about a possible role at Stamford Bridge.

The Russian is close to Shevchenko and sanctioned his £31million transfer in 2006.

Shevchenko never came close to his AC Milan form in a Chelsea shirt and left the club on loan to the Italian giants in 2008.

Shevy scored only 16 goals in his 70 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea, a record he won’t be proud of.

Chelsea have a habit of bringing back former players to play coaching or managerial roles.

Former player Bolo Zenden recently joined the club as an assistant to new manager Rafael Benitez.

Eddie Newton and Benitez’s predecessor Roberto Di Matteo were also former Chelsea players before they rejoined in a staff capacity.

Shevchenko is an experienced footballer, and has worked with many great coaches. I don’t see how his appointment can do any harm. Would anyone oppose his appointment?

Spanish newspaper Marca, who have strong links with Real Madrid, claim: “Jose Mourinho will not coach Real Madrid next season.

“Both Mourinho and Florentino Perez believe the Portuguese’s cycle on the bench at the Bernabeu is exhausted and that the current situation cannot continue beyond June 30.”

The speculation is sure to alert Roman Abramovich, where Mourinho is still highly regarded following his spell at Stamford Bridge where he won two Premier League crowns and one FA Cup.

With Rafa only being hired on a temporary basis until the summer, speculation has been rife about who will take up the helm come July.

Pep Guardiola had been short-favourite to become the Blues boss next season but reports have recently suggested that Pep has agreed a pre-agreement with Manchester City, after disagreeing with Roman’s policy on managers.

Jose Mourinho would always be welcome back at Chelsea, by fans and players alike. It is yet to be seen whether Roman Abramovich would welcome the Portuguese manager back, or even if Jose would come back under Roman’s terms.

For Chelsea fans to get their wish, Roman Abramovich will have to let Mourinho have more control over the club, and allow Jose to pick and choose his own acquisitions. This will be a huge bullet for Roman to bite but in the interests of the club, needs to happen. Who wouldn’t want the ‘special one’ back?

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is losing sleep at the thought of leaving Rafa Benitez in control of his Chelsea team, and is reportedly re-hiring Avram Grant into a supervisory role.

Grant was sacked as Blues manager after he came within one penalty kick of lifting the Champions League back in 2008, but it is believed that he has maintained a relationship with Abramovich in the last few years and he may now be recalled by the Russian as his attempts to revive his faltering team continue to flounder.

The role the Israeli coach is said to be offered is that of a consultative position. Interim boss Rafael Benitez is unlikely to be content to work with the ex-West Ham boss in an overseeing role, so it may be that Abramovich sees him as a safe pair of hands to take over the first team once again as he waits to appoint Pep Guardiola as the permanent Chelsea boss next summer.

With Benitez yet to make his presence felt, and with the Chelsea fans gunning for his head, the appointment of Avram Grant will be wildly applauded, especially if Rafa decides he can’t work with the Israeli and leaves. Take Torres with you on your way out Rafa…

Since the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo, Chelsea have fallen behind in their attempts to sign 18 year-old Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona, with Manchester City taking prominence.

Deulofeu is considered to be the stars of the Academy and is being billed in Spain as the heir to Lionel Messi’s throne.

He has played briefly in the Champions League and La Liga this season and he is such hot property that Nike offered him a £122k deal when he was just 14.
But he is still only on a youth contract at the club and has so far refused to sign a new deal which would keep him there until June 2017, despite extensive talks between the club and his agent.

Deulofeu has scored a series of spectacular goals for the Barcelona B team this season but is already growing impatient for regular first-team football.

Chelsea we’re thought to have been in contact with the player, but reports are suggesting the instability around Stamford Bridge are putting the player off.

City were alerted to his availability by new sporting director Txiki Begiristain, who used to work for Barcelona, and it is now thought a move to the Etihad is likely.

It was only a matter of time before managers and players alike would start being put off by Roman Abramovich’s wheeling and dealing. Pep looks to have been put off by Roman and now this wonderkid is about to snub us. Rafa has to go, but that will not help our image. It is going to take years to repair, and to think we are the holders of the Champions League… Thanks Roman…

Anzhi Makhachkala have emerged as front runners to sign Fernando Torres if the player becomes available.

Roman Abramovich is rumoured to be at the end of his tether with the Spaniard, and Rafa Benitez is said to be Fernando’s last chance to prove himself.

Rafa was Torres’ last manager to have the player in form, and it is thought that recombining the two at Chelsea will see the end of the Ex-Liverpool players playing days at Chelsea.

Anzhi Makhachkala are pushing to take the Spanish striker out of the Premier League pressure cooker.

Manager Guus Hiddink has a good relationship with Roman Abramovich and the pair are understood to have discussed the difficult situation Torres has encountered at Stamford Bridge.

The club already have a big-name front man in Samuel Eto’o and Hiddink is planning to step down as manager at the end of the season.

That does not impact on a potential Torres transfer, though, as Brazilian Roberto Carlos – Anzhi’s sporting director – is also backing the push to get Torres on board.

The player is still trying to prove he can hit the net regularly at Stamford Bridge. But time is running out as his goalscoring record since arriving two years ago is appalling.

The Russians will not be able to promise him Champions League football – but they hope that the massive wages they can offer will turn his head.

A source close to Torres said that he was determined to save his Chelsea career, adding: “Nobody from Chelsea has told him he will be sold but but it’s normal that the club are not satisfied with his performances.

“But the person affected most by all this is the player. Nando is conscious that he is not offering his best level.”

I hope this story turns out to be true, Fernando has done enough damage. He is the iceberg sinking our ship and Roman is the look-out allowing it to happen. Abramovich needs to admit defeat, and cut his losses before its too late! Anyone disagree?
