It was the worst possible result for Chelsea against Manchester City yesterday, as it put Roberto Mancini’s men seven points ahead in second place. The worry now for Chelsea is that Arsenal are just two points behind in fifth place, while Tottenham are just one point behind and play their game in hand away to West Ham tonight. If Spurs win tonight they will feel like they have won the jackpot at an online casino and move into Third Place.

I have never wanted the Hammers to win so much in all my life, but Spurs are in a really good spell of form at the minute. The most disappointing thing about yesterday’s game was the lack of passion and drive to get back into it. After Hart saved Lampard’s penalty it seemed to drain some of the resolution from the players and we made it too easy for City to play their game.

There was maybe a case for Hart seeing red after bundling into Demba Ba to give away the spot kick, but the striker was heading away from goal so it was no surprise to see just a yellow. Lampard struck it well, but Hart guessed right and made a fantastic save. That was the closest we came, and Toure was allowed way too much room in the box to pick his spot for the opener, as was Tevez for the second.

We are in a real fight now, and Benitez needs to get the players over that result quickly, with an awayday at Middlesborough in the FA cup on Wednesday, followed by a vital home game against West Brom in the Premier league. Any more slip ups and we risk missing out on the Champions league next season.

Carlos Tevez has made it quite clear he wants a move away from Manchester City, and it looked as though he was going to get his wish and seal a move to Corinthians, a move that would have made it possible for him to be closer to his family in Argentina.

That is not going to happen though, as the deal has collapsed due to the Brazilian side being unable to raise the necessary funds to secure Tevez’s signature. With the player demanding such a high wage and transfer fee there are not many clubs that could match both, but surely Chelsea are one of those.

Former Chelsea player Clive Walker was speaking about Tevez on talkSPORT Radio this morning and had the following to say regarding Chelsea making a move for the Manchester City striker.

“When we first saw this about Tevez wanting to go back to his family and play in South America, it seemed a little bit bizarre to me. If it all unfolds and he ends up moving to London or Europe, it would show how cut-throat players are today. They see a move, they want a move, they want more money and that would be him. But I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened because this is how it seems to be turning out with players these days.”

Walker went on to say, “I can see him moving to a big club, of course, because there are only a few clubs who can afford and, if Chelsea are in the market, I am sure they can afford him.”

So Walker is not convinced Tevez wants a move closer to home, but surely Manchester City will never sell their star player to one of their closest rivals. Or will they?

Manchester City moved to within three points of the top of the table, and just one point behind Chelsea, with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Bolton at the Eastlands.

Yet again it was Carlos Tevez who won the game for Man City by scoring as early as the fourth minute, but he ended the game in anger when Roberto Mancini substituted him in the 89th minute. Tevez reacted by pushing his manager out of the way and making it clear that he should have been left on the pitch for the last few minutes.

Mancini said afterwards: “I am happy about what happened. I would like every player to be like Carlo and want to stay on the pitch, but I needed Balotelli on the pitch as he is taller.”

There is definitely problems at the Eastlands but they now has as much chance of winning the title as anyone!

The Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been nominated for the PFA Player-of-the-Year award this season, which will be elected by the players themselves.

Wayne Rooney is the hot favourite for singlehandedly keeping Man Utd in the Premiership title race, but if Chelsea win the Double by the end of the season, surely Drogba will give him a run for his money.

Gordon Taylor, chief executive of the PFA, said: ‘When you talk about the best players in the world, Didier Drogba is a name on many people’s lips and with his strength, pace, ability and goalscoring skills, the Chelsea striker is different class,’.

‘The more he has matured, the better he has got.’

The injured Cesc Fabregas is definitely the most improved player in the young Arsenal side, and has earned a place in the line-up, but is more likely to win the Young-Player-of-the-Year award, where he is also up against Rooney.

The Man City striker Carlos Tevez is the fourth nominee for the coveted award, but i would make him the outsider of the quartet. Ladbrokes, however disagree and make him 10/1 second favourite behind Rooney.

The Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka is feeling confident ahead of the new season, and thinks that United have taken a backward step with the loss of Tevez and Ronaldo.

He said: “United are still a strong team and Ferguson is a good manager who knows what to do, but I don’t think they’ll be as strong this season,”

“Ronaldo has gone, Tevez has gone, and maybe that will give us more of a chance to win this title and to be stronger than United.

“We have a strong squad this year and everyone is together, so we’ll have a better chance.

“It will be a tough title race. All the teams at the top are very strong, and even Manchester City have some good players.

“Because United have lost two big names, it gives everyone else – including ourselves – a big chance to win it. We will fight until the end and see.”

Nic, you forgot to mention that we have gained our own “Russian Ronaldinho” to make us even a better team.

But if i was Anelka i would be feeling good too, especially as he will finally get his chance to show his worth in his favourite position. Ancelotti has vowed to play with two strikers this season, and after spending most of the last two years playing on the wing, Anelka will be in his element.
