Now that Chelsea have had their transfer ban lifted, the media will be upping their interest in possible Chelsea transfer targets another notch, and todays rumours are all top notch performers.
The rumours about Sergio Aguero won’t go away, despite Ancelotti saying before the meeting with Atletico Madrid that he was not interested in signing Aguero. We know we can take anything that Ancelotti tells the press with a pinch of salt, but he said that before Aguero scored two brilliant goals in that match, and also before the transfer ban was lifted.
The Daily Mail this morning headlines with “Ancelotti says he won’t spend in January” and then states that Chelsea are trying to negotiate Atletico down from a £40m asking price for the young Argentinian, and are reluctant to pay more than £30m.
With Kalou AND Drogba going away in January, i think that a new top-class striker must be the priority for Ancelotti if they are going to carry on their assault on all fronts.
Over to the Daily Mirror, and they prefer the scenario of Ancelotti going back to AC Milan to poach the young Brazilian Pato from his old club despite also headlining “Ancelotti may not buy in January”. But they actually say “Pato or Aguero” so they are covering themselves.
Sevilla’s head coach Manolo Jimenez said that Chelsea were tracking their Brazilian strike Fabiano, who is also considered top class. He said: “I worry about the interest of Chelsea, but I don’t worry about what Luis Fabiano thinks.
“He is a great guy and I have no doubt that he thinks only of Sevilla.
“The problem is for Chelsea and all the other teams in Europe because Luis Fabiano plays for Sevilla.”
The Mail also puts Marek Hamsik on the wish-list. He has been much lauded as a Chelsea target this week, and they say that the 22 year-old Napoli midfielder is viewed as a longterm replacement for Frank Lampard. I certainly think he’s good enough to take that role.
The Mail then quotes Chelsea’s new chief executive Ron Gourlay as saying: “We’ve not been known to spend a lot in January. We have the money if we decide we want to spend it but the right player’s got to be available.”
“We have one of the strongest pools of players out there. We’re in a good position but if we need to buy and the right player is there, then we will.”
Well from that list of three possible targets i would say they could all be classed as the “right player”, don’t you?
Ancelotti – It’s a good time to play Man Utd
