According to quotes attributed to Leicester City’s Andrej Kramaric, Chelsea were very close to signing the £9 million rated Croatia international. However, the player turned down Jose Mourinho’s offer to sign for relegation threatened Leicester City in a £9 million deal. The player was quoted by daily star’s website as saying;
“I never had a chance to meet Jose Mourinho, it is true there was an option for me to join Chelsea.
“It wasn’t an easy decision for me, but after I heard I was supposed to go on loan somewhere outside England, I rejected Chelsea and chose Leicester because I wanted to feel real football, I wanted to play in Premier League!
“I’ve played against Man United, Man City and Arsenal, and I am not impressed at all by their strength. Chelsea is one step ahead of all the others.”
Andrej Kramaric has gone on to play a total of ten games for Leicester City and scored just one goal. Definitely not a good return for a player who cost £9 million. Definitely not a return that would have helped Chelsea. In my opinion, Chelsea has really not missed out on anything special judging by his poor form for Leicester City instead the club has managed to dodge a bullet. Besides judging by his quote, Mourinho never saw him as a first team material and his stint with Leicester City has thus far proved that.
Having said that, it is important to state that Club definitely need to sign another striker in the summer. With Diego Costa’s injury problems, the club simply cannot enter next season without having signed another striker. With Didier Drogba likely to leave the club in the summer, Remy and Diego Costa ( both of whom are injury prone ) cannot be solely relied on.
