With Chelsea closing in on their first league title in 5 years, they will host current third-place side Manchester United this Saturday without top scorer Diego Costa. Manchester United are in excellent form, having won 7 Premier League games in a row.
Costa’s injuries have become somewhat chronic as of late, as he has missed numerous games here and there throughout the year with the same nagging hamstring injury. Consequently, without Diego, Chelsea’s attack has been their achilles heel. With second stringer Loic Remy also said to be recovering from a leg injury, this leaves legend Didier Drogba as their only 100% healthy option.
Drogba is definitely capable of playing and getting Chelsea the goal with the help of the midfielder but considering his age, he is definitely not able to play for for 90 minutes.
Last week against Queens Park Rangers he looked less than his usual strong self during his first stint at Chelsea, just a step slower than everyone which is expected if you consider he is not as young as he was during his first stint with the blues. It should not be forgotten that he is now 35 years old, and Premier League defenses are more complete than ever. On the other hand, Jose Mourinho says that Frenchman Loic “will be okay” to play on Saturday. That remains to be seen.
However, if Remy is fit enough to play, it remains to be seen whether Mourinho will start the Frenchman or play him from the bench and start with Drogba instead.
