The ex-Premiership players Freddie Ljungberg (Gooner reject!) and Kasey Keller are in the Seattle Sounders team to face Chelsea this weekend. They had a practise today but Ljungberg didn’t stay on the pitch the whole time. He is carrying a slight ankle injury from last weeks game against Houston, but the club aren’t worried about him missing the match against Chelsea.
Kasey Kelly impressed the 300 or so onlookers with a brilliant save from a penalty kick, and looked cpretty solid in the practise.
It sounds like the MLS club are just using the game as a training session and will be swapping players. The Seattle coach(love the name!), Sigi Schmid, was asked if he had already picked his team to face Chelsea.
He said: “Yeah we have a lineup,” he said. “but we’re going to try to get everybody into the game at some point. It’s a great opportunity, but we also have an important game next Tuesday (against Houston in the US Open Cup semi-final) that we don’t want to lose sight of. But we also want to represent ourselves well…Some guys will play a little more than others.”
If things go as well as last pre-season, Chelsea should be scoring for fun in the next couple of weeks. Didn’t Chelsea beat AC Milan 5-0 or 6-0 in one of the games last summer? Where did it all go wrong for Scolari?
