Joe Cole – Man Utd will inspire us to beat Spurs!

The Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole believes that whatever the result of Man Utd’s game against Man City on Saturday lunchtime, it will inspire the Chelsea side to victory against Tottenham!

“Whatever happens with the Man U-Man City game we’ll use as motivation,” Cole said. “If they go and beat Man City then we’ll say: ‘Right, lads, come on, we have to win today.’ If they go there and [lose] then it’ll be: ‘Right, lads if we win it’ll be the final nail in the coffin. I prefer knowing what you have to do, you can use it as motivation.”

Cole is excited with the prospect of Chelsea winning their first ever League and FA Cup double, and the thought of getting his name in the history books.

“You want to make history, you want to make your mark as footballer,” he said. “You don’t want to sit down at the end of your career and think, ‘What if?’

“We’ve got the chance to do the Double. In 140 years, only six teams have done that. Chelsea have never done that before so we’ve got the chance to make history.”

“Its so exciting,” he continued. “We’ve got four weeks to go until the Cup final and the chance of doing something amazing. It’s in our own hands and that’s all you can ask for at this time of the season.

“We’ve just got to keep our nerve; we’ve got to go to White Hart Lane on Saturday and play our game and not get mixed up in the emotions of it being such an important part of the season.

“If we go there and do our bit we should win the game but Tottenham – what a performance they put on last night – obviously it keeps Arsenal at arms length.”

I know a Man Utd win would give Chelsea extra reason to beat Spurs (do we need one?), but I am still keen to see a Man City victory!
