The Chelsea captain John Terry will be captaining Chelsea for the 300th time at Porto tonight, and as the last senior player to come through Chelsea’s youth system, he is certain that Ancelotti will be bringing some more youngsters through, starting with Kakuta and Borini.
‘It is what Chelsea Football Club have been aiming for ever since I came through the ranks really. I was the last one.” he said.
“No-one is getting too carried away and Gael Kakuta still has a lot to prove but he is a great talent along with the likes of Jeffrey Bruma and Fabio Borini who are all doing really well.
“That is good to see for the players and manager but also the fans love to see it. Gael is a really exciting prospect who has just come back from a bad injury as well and to see him come on [against Wolves] and play with the confidence he showed is really encouraging.
“Speaking to the other young lads, they are all encouraged by seeing Gael and Fabio come on in games. The manager has spoken to them and said if you do it on the pitch in reserve games, which he watches, he will have the confidence to put them on the bench or even start them.
“It is important for not to settle for where you are, thinking great, I am at Chelsea. We speak about them having things too early and it is vital they push on because when you are involved it can be a great time in your life.’
“The manager is clever in making sure we keep fit and sharp and ready in this busy period. We have a lot games coming up and we have not been training on Sundays, we have had two-day recoveries and things like that, and we are going into games a lot sharper and fitter. The manager is giving people a rest and bringing fresh legs in.”
It is certainly about time we brought youngsters into the team. Chelsea have lost too many players with great potential by not giving them enough games. Just look at Carlton Cole now!
