Chelsea will try to keep hold of their veteran Ivorian striker Didier Drogba despite interest from abroad and their own efforts to bring in another forward. Drogba has one year left on his contract and the Chelsea management would like to extend that by another 12 months.
According to the Guardian Drogba’s old club Marseille are interested in bringing the Ivorian back and Turkish side Galatasaray are also interested in the player. Drogba’s experience is seen as valuable to the club that still aspires to win the Champions League, however the Chelsea still want to bring in some fresh legs to the forward line.
Marseille’s president, Vincent LaBrune told the media that they could afford Drogba’s wages if they sold some of their current players. He said: “The question would be whether in terms of salary – not a transfer fee – Marseille have the means to pay Didier Drogba for four years and the answer is ‘yes’, though only if we had some departures”.
Meanwhile new boss Villas-Boas would still like Porto’s Radamel Falcao to join him in London and the club is keeping an eye on Romelu Lukaku, Sergio Aguero and Neymar. Pre-season training will begin next week and Chelsea will want clarity about the future of Drogba as soon as possible.
Get me the trio only pliz Lukaku,Aguero en Neymar. When it comes to creativity, it’s Aguero. Dribling en talent, Neymar. Physic en gud finishing, Lukaku.
Villas-Boaz’s recent comment about the team being good just as it is; is a bit worrying. I accept that he wants to build new morale, but we also need younger players. And we need to bring them in before fair play rules come into full swing. Now is the time to sign players in their early twenties who will play at Stamford for another ten years. Drogba, Lampard, Essien, Malouda, Anelka, and Terry, are slowing. Manchester United is getting younger and faster every year, and it’s starting to hurt us. It’s no use looking at what our present players achieved in the past, because they were younger then. If Chelsea is serious about winning the Premiership they will need sign some experienced youth. If they are serious about beating Barcelona to the Champions League they will need to find one or two really special talents just as Barce have. Andre, please, let’s not miss out on Neymar; this year he is available!
