Our old boss Jose Mourinho is still getting into controversy in Italy while managing Inter Milan, and he has now managed to upset a whole religion!
His team only managed a 1-1 draw with Bari on Sunday, and after the game Mourinho singled out Sulley Muntari for special criticism. He said: ”Muntari had some problems related to Ramadan – perhaps with this heat it’s not good for him to be doing this fasting”.
That may sound like a reasonable statement to you and me, and to be honest if i was paying an athlete , say, £80,000 a week to perform to the best of his ability every week, i wouldn’t be too happy if he starved himself for six of those weeks every year.
But Mohamed Nour Dachan, the head of one of Italy’s main Muslim associations said: “I think Mourinho should talk a bit less,”.
”There’s no reason why a player who is religiously observant should perform less,”
This small exchange has obviously been blown out of all proportion in Italy, as the press over there just love to bait Mourinho, knowing that he is always likely to upset someone by speaking his mind.
Good old Jose!
