Newly crowned Skybet Championship player of the year Patrick Bamford has threatened he will leave Chelsea if Chelsea manager does not play him. The 21 year old striker has spent the last two years on loan with different clubs.
He had stints with MK Dones and Derby County last season and so far this season, he has been with promotion chasing Middlesbrough. For Middlesbrough, he has scored 19 goals in 41 appearances. Reports had emerged last week claiming Chelsea have opened talks with the player.
Talking to the press yesterday, the powerful striker who has an impressive 20% goal conversion rate was quoted to have said;
“I want to play for Chelsea, I hope I do get that chance and I think I can compete,” he said.
“A lot of people said I left Nottingham Forest for the wrong reasons, but that wasn’t true. I wanted to play for a top team like Chelsea.
“However, after two years regularly playing out on loan, going back and sitting on the bench wouldn’t really help me.
“So it’s down to those at the top at Chelsea to decide what will be the best for my career and what to do next year.”
Chelsea currently have three senior strikers in the team – Diego Costa, Loic Remy and Didier Drogba. Drogba is very likely to leave at the end of his contract in June and considering the injury situation of both Costa and Remy, it was hoped that a striker of the quality of Patrick Bamford will add more firepower to Jose Mourinho’s team next season.
However, considering Chelsea has Costa and Remy, I do not see how Bamford will get the regular playing time he so wants at Chelsea next season which means we sadly may see him leave either permanently this time or on another loan spell. Should Chelsea be able to keep Bamford next season, having seen him play a couple of times, I think he will save Chelsea the money that would have been spent on signing another striker.
