£25m Bid ACCEPTED For Chelsea Target, His Agent Was At Stamford Bridge

Nicolas-Gaitan

According to reports in the Portuguese media, Benfica has accepted a bid of 25 million for high rated Chelsea and Manchester United target Nicolas Gaitan. However, the bid is not from Chelsea but instead from Liverpool who reportedly sees him as the ideal replacement for MSL bound Steve Gerrard.

Gaitan’s agent and super Agent Jorge Mendes ( who was reportedly dragged into the deal to ensure it goes through faster ) who is friends with Mourinho was said to have met with Chelsea officials last week and a deal was agreed with some reports even going as far as saying a medical is scheduled for next week and the player is to be unveiled as a Chelsea player the same week.

However, judging by the reports in Portugal that claims Benfica has accepted Liverpool’s bid for the player, it seems Chelsea has lost out unless off course if the player rejects the opportunity to go to Liverpool instead which is very possible.

First, few years ago Liverpool triggered Diego Costa’s release clause which means his then club Atletico Madrid had no choice than to sell him but the player refused them due large to their lack of champions league football. This situation could well play out again as yet again, Liverpool have no champions league football to offer and although Chelsea may not be willing to pay Benfica as much as Liverpool is willing, they can afford to offer the player a bigger wage and considering how much power players have in the transfer market these days, it will not be surprising if the player ends up at Chelsea.
