£25m UCL Finalist Rejects Madrid, Confirms He'll Play For Chelsea Next Season

Thibaut Courtois

Belgian goalie, Thibaut Courtois has been a great part of Chelsea’s campaign this season. 30 league appearances, 12 clean sheets, and goals conceded, he has been on top form ever since he returned from a 3-season long loan from La Liga where he enjoyed a level of success with Diego Simeone-led Atletico Madrid. Notably winning the Spanish league with the club. He returned to his parent club, Chelsea at the beginning of the season and has stayed ever impressive since, and gone ahead to extend his deal until 2019.

Spanish giants, Real Madrid have always been keen of having the 6ft 6 in at the Bernabeu. But the Belgian Sportsman of the year 2014 says regarding any move,

“I am happy at Chelsea. I have four years on my contract. I had great years at Atletico, I could dream thanks to that club, but in my career I always aimed to the top.”

Nullifying speculations of leaving the Stamford bridge anytime soon. Real Madrid are in search of a long-term replacement for Iker Casillas, and the 22 year-old has been considered a great option for long. But they have to search elsewhere, possible Manchester United’s Degea. But the Spaniard has been offered an improvement in contracts at the Old Trafford, reportedly £200,000-a-week.

Courtois has gone ahead to establish himself as the first choice in between the goal, relegating club long-time legend Petr Cech to the bench. Cech is poised to leave the club. As next season approaches, Thibaut will continue to serve as hindrance to opposition attack, and spear head the defense as they aim for more success in England and at continental level.
