Chelsea faces London rival Tottenham Hotspur in the week 14 of the 2014/15 Barclay’s Premier League on Wednesday. This London derby comes at the back of a disappointing result for League leaders Chelsea who were held to a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light by a spirited Sunderland side.
Jose Mourinho and his boys will be keen to avoid further slip up when they face Tottenham while Mauricio Pochettino side will look to continue their impressive display after coming from a goal down to beat Roberto Martinez’s Everton on Sunday.
Though, Tottenham will be high on confidence after a back-to-back league wins over Everton and Hull City, but it is Chelsea that looks the more likely to carry the day. Hence, we look at five reasons why Chelsea will beat Tottenham Hotspur come Wednesday.
Tottenham Are Vulnerable To Conceding Early Goals.
Tottenham have shown in recent games that their defence seems to lose focus or are usually not aware of what to do earlier in games hence, the series of early goals they have conceded in the league so far.
In their last six league games Pochettino and his boys have let in a goal into Hugo Lloris’ net before the 20th minute. Against sides like Everton, Hull City, Stoke City, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Manchester City, Tottenham have allowed a goal into their net early in the game.
Against a side like Chelsea who have potent goal scorers, expect the strikers to run riot on the Spurs defence who usually look lost earlier in games. Chelsea is also usually unplayable when you allow them score the first goal.
Chelsea Should Have The Fresher Legs.
Chelsea had their weekend game on Saturday, 24hours before Spurs who played Everton late Sunday Evening. With both side facing each other, Chelsea will have the fresher legs bearing in mind that Tottenham also played Thursday in the Europa cup before the Everton game on Sunday.
Chelsea squad depth also means they can call on fresher legs like Loic Remy, Andre Schurrle, Luis and Ramires who would have the same effect as the regulars.
Chelsea Have an Extra Motivation to Win.
Chelsea after a disappointing result at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland in the weekend will be all out to get a good result against Tottenham so as to maintain its impressive start to the season.
A win for Chelsea will further strengthen its position on the Log especially with title rivals facing difficult oppositions as well. The idea of extending its lead at the summit of the EPL table would be a strong motivation for Chelsea to get a good result against Spurs.
Chelsea’s Impressive Home Record against Spurs.
Chelsea has an impressive home record against Tottenham Hotspurs in the league. You will have to go far back 2nd October 1990 as the last time Spurs beat Chelsea at SW6.
Against Tottenham, Chelsea have always been dominant at home. The club have always taken all 3points in most of their encounters with Spurs at the Bridge with some occasional draws.
Tottenham simply do not know how to pick points at Stamford Bridge and against an impressive Chelsea that we’ve seen this season; they will still struggle to take anything out of this game.
Chelsea Are in a Good Form.
Forget the result at the Stadium of Light, Chelsea are the most in-form team and the team to beat this season.
The Squad look stronger in every department of the pitch than any other team in the league. Winning all their league games bar the games against Manchester City, Manchester United and Sunderland which were all away games is a testament that the team is in a rich vein of form.
It will take an extra-ordinary effort from Pochettino to really stop Chelsea from taking the maximum point from this game.
