For some time now it is no secret that Chelsea plan to improve their defensive options. At first it was Everton’s John stones Chelsea were interested in but an agreement couldn’t be reached between Chelsea and Everton. Everton refused to sell the England international to Chelsea.
Now it’s another Everton defender that is closing in on a move to Stamford Bridge. Recent reports from Chelsea camp indicate that Everton right back Seamus Coleman is close to joining Chelsea this January transfer.
Chelsea are in need a defender to sort out their terrible situation this season, they are currently languishing in 15 on the premier league table after 17 matches. They have performed poorly this season suffering defensive setbacks in recent weeks.
This Chelsea team holds the record for best defensive team last season, but this season they have performed woefully, the team has conceded more goals in 17 games than they did in 38 league games in 2014/2015 season.
Age seems to have caught up with John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic is way past his best days and Gary Cahill has been inconsistent at times. That is why Chelsea need to sign top defenders to bolster their options and they have identified Seamus Coleman as an option. And they could snap him up for 20 million pounds.
The 27 year old joined Everton in 2009 and quickly blended into the first team becoming a cog in the Everton defense. He has scored 13 goals in 169 appearances for Everton.
