Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho would like to bring Essien to Real Madrid in order to add some steel to his midfield. However Roman Abramovich, who brought Essien to Chelsea for £24.4 million in 2005 is having non of it.
According to the Sun, Real Madrid want to offer the Blues £18 million for the Ghana international but Chelsea do not want to sell him, especially not to Mourinho’s side who are Champions League rivals.
Essien still has four years left on his contract and is happy to continue his career at Stamford Bridge. Essien has played in 224 games so far for Chelsea and has helped them to win two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the Carling Cup. Essien has also stated that he will take time off from the Ghana national side to focus on his club career and to fully recover from injuries. It seems he is ready to commit himself to the Blues until he retires.
While Chelsea have no shortage of forwards they will be keen to hold on to their midfielders. Their slump in the middle of last season was arguably down to not having enough cover when players like Lampard were injured. Villas-Boas will look to avoid that mistake and make sure there is enough cover in midfield.
Bison must stay
Villas-Boaz’s recent comment about the team being good just as it is; is a bit worrying. I accept that he wants to build new morale, but we also need younger players. And we need to bring them in before fair play rules come into full swing. Now is the time to sign players in their early twenties who will play at Stamford for another ten years. Drogba, Lampard, Essien, Malouda, Anelka, and Terry, are slowing. Manchester United is getting younger and faster every year, and it’s starting to hurt us. It’s no use looking at what our present players achieved in the past, because they were younger then. If Chelsea is serious about winning the Premiership they will need sign some experienced youth. If they are serious about beating Barcelona to the Champions League they will need to find one or two really special talents just as Barce have. Andre, please, let’s not miss out on Neymar; this year he is available!
I think the offer is good but let Boas asses him first en if he feels like selling him, it would better after Jose understands Essien more than Boas so this is an added advantage to him even if we play R. Madrid.
Pls AVB sign us Neymarg, pastore & Lukaku they are ready to play for the blue
@Gary- The young players we are looking for at the moment are mostly foreign from what I’ve heard, which means we can only buy them after July 1st meaning they will have to count in the financial fair play rules. Unless we were to get a premier league player such as Modric, which is isn’t going to happen any time soon (if any), we wil have to wait for signings.
It’s not that chelsea isn’t going to buy. but it’s smart to get to actually have practice before making changes to the team…
