The reigning Premier League champions have lost seven times in the league – conceding 23 goals in the process.

That has prompted the club to be linked with several high-profile managers including Carlo Ancelotti, Diego Simeone and Pep Guardiola.

The Atletico Madrid manager has been named as one whose fit will fit in well at Stamford Bridge and is reportedly top on Chelsea’s wish list of managers.

However, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has landed the Blues a knock-out blow in the race to land Simeone. He claims the Buenos Aires-born tactician will not leave the Vicente Calderon for Chelsea.

“I was with Atletico Madrid last week and they assured me Diego Simeone is at Vicente Calderon to stay,” Balague said.

“The plan is that he stays for a long time and with the new contract it should guarantee he stays for a few years at least.

“Also, Simeone hasn’t prepared himself to be in England just yet. I know that he is learning English but very slowly.

“Atletico Madrid are very assured that he will stay, despite the report linking him to Chelsea.”

Simeone has enjoyed success with the Rojiblancos, leading them to the 2013/14 La Liga title and also getting into the Champions League final in 2013. He has been successful in building an Atletico Madrid team that has been able to break the long-standing La Liga duopoly of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
