The young Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero is in England today for the Europa Cup semi-final against Liverpool, and refused to be drawn on any talk about a possible move to Chelsea this summer, but he did admit that he would be holding talks with Atletico in June.
He was asked if he would like to comment on the stories linking him with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, and he replied: “The day before an important semi-final I don’t think is the right time to talk about my future.”.
“From now until June I am concentrating on games and doing my best for Atletico.
“At the end of the season we’ll perhaps sit down with the club and decide on a course of action which best suits us both.”
He then went on to say how much he was looking forward to playing at Anfield, and how his team will have to relax and hit Liverpool on the counter-attack. “When I came to Europe I came here for nights just like tomorrow night,” he said.
“Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world on their own park but it is a game we have to take calmly and in our stride.
“For any player, playing in a stadium like this is an extra motivation but we are in a semi-final and that gives us all the motivation we need.
“The first few minutes are going to be decisive. We are the away team and we have to make sure we have to go out fully concentrated and with a determined attitude.
“We have to be prepared to play on the counter and maybe not go all out for goals.
“Liverpool will know we play very well on the counter-attack and we have fast guys up front and they will be prepared for that.
“If we do get an opportunity on the break we have to be able to convert it.”
Would Abramovich really splash out £40m plus to take Aguero to Chelsea?
