It has been revealed that Portuguese heavyweights, FC Porto, have slapped an £18.5million price tag on Chelsea target, Giannelli Imbula. Imbula only recently joined Porto in the summer from Ligue One side, Marseille. The 23-year old is a defensive midfielder who has found settling down at Portugal difficult, since joining from Marseille for a €20million deal in the summer.
Chelsea have been looking to make reinforcements in the summer and were put on high alert earlier in the day when it was revealed that Porto had put an £18.5million price tag on the midfielder. The defending champions are 14th on the log, a rather unusual position. Their defence have not been any better and their array of players in the midfield position have seemingly looked out of sorts this season. They have been unable to deliver the kind of performance that saw them crowned champions some months ago.
The dismal defending have seen them concede 30 times this season and are in desperate needs of reinforcements as they hope to finish the season on a high note, despite ending the first half of the campaign on the back foot. Guus Hiddink is reported to be an ardent admirer of the 23-year old and may be tempted to pay the £18.5million asking price for the dogged defensive midfielder.
The former Marseille man has made just 11 appearances this season, 4 of which were in the champions league where he boasts of a 92% pass success rate. The left footed midfielder have spent most of his professional career in France, with 3 years at Marseille and 4 years at Guingamp. It is reported that the player is eligible to play for both Belgium and France. But,is yet to decide which country he should play international football with.
