Almost Done – Chelsea Close To Two Major Signing

Cahill-Chelsea-title-race-573484Chelsea is reportedly ready to make a double swoop for Shakhtar Donetsk duo, Luiz Adriano and Douglas Costa [DailyMailOnline]. The reported fee would be around £20million, a low price for two quality players, with extremely bright futures. 28 year-old striker, Adriano would be able to join Chelsea on a free transfer, for his current contract ends this summer. But Douglas Costa still has three years left on his current deal, which would up his price to about £20million.

Douglas Costa is only 24 years of age, but is untested on a big stage. One of his largest positives is that he can line up as a winger, attacking midfielder, or striker, playing any position in the attack. If Mourinho was to buy him, he could battle Willian in training for a spot on the right wing, but that is unlikely, and he is not better than Diego Costa, Eden Hazard, or fellow Brazilian Oscar.  Douglas Costa is not the answer to Chelsea’s few problems, but Luiz Adriano could be worth the effort to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Douglas Costa has yet to live up to the hype of his teenage years, only scoring only one goal in seven Champions League matches, and assisting just one. Luiz Adriano on the other hand, scored nine goals in just six Champions League appearances, and he also had an assist but he created seven chances, as a striker.

If Chelsea can convince the Brazilian striker to sign to Stamford Bridge, which they should be able to do, then he would be a great singing. He could replace Didier Drogba, who is reportedly on his way to the MLS, and Loïc Rémy has been more injured than Diego Costa this season, and might even be sold this summer.

Chelsea certainly needs to add another striker for next season, and Dom Solanke and Izzy Brown won’t be ready for the first team next season. Patrick Bamford looks to extend his loan at Middlesbrough, which leaves Chelsea no other options except to purchase one this summer. Mourinho will be looking at multiple strikers this summer, and Luiz Adriano would be a great one.
