Chelsea’s Carlo Ancelotti’s said the was lucky to still have a job after his club’s bad run of form that saw the Blues lose touch with Manchester United and Arsenal half-way through the season. But the Italian manager is in a good mood now that the dip seems to be behind them and after recording impressive victories over Manchester United and Manchester City.
Ancelotti told the Daily Mirror: “I know very well that this team slept for two months and, in those moments, I had fantastic support from the team. A lot of coaches that sleep for two months, at this moment, are at home watching the game on television. I am here. Fortunately”.
He also hailed new signing David Luiz, who scored vital goals in both games despite being a central defender. He said: “David Luiz showed his ability, his quality, for the team. When he’s played, he gave fantastic support to the others. Defensively, Luiz worked with fantastic tempo for a long time and his performance was really good”.
The recent wins have seen Chelsea’s chances to win the Premier League grow again but Ancelotti isn’t looking that far ahead. He said: “We have nine games to play and we have to try our best. United won yesterday so the gap’s the same. The most important thing for us is to be focused game by game”.
Chelsea currently lie in 3rd place in the Premier League with 54 points, nine behind Manchester United and four behind Arsenal.
