The Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti says that he wants his team to ignore all the hype about next weekend’s crunch game against Man Utd, and concentrate on the matter in hand, which means a trip to Madrid to face Atletico in the Champions League.
As Frank Lampard said earlier, they can’t afford to let their guard down, and need to try to keep on improving and try to open a gap at the top of the Premiership.
Ancelotti called for his players to keep calm.
“Usually all the people think about the game against Manchester United but we have another important game during the week and we want to prepare well,” he said. “It is very easy to prepare for Manchester United because it is a very important match but we need to maintain concentration in the Champions League at this moment.”
Ancelotti then went on to praise the revitalised Deco, who looked like he was going to leave Chelsea in the summer, but has come back as strong as ever this season.
“Deco was man-to-man on the midfielder [against Bolton] and changed position with Frank Lampard, on the left a little bit and Lampard went to offensive midfield,” he said.
“He is doing what he knows, there is nothing special. He can do this and he is doing it for the team, this is important, he is not a selfish player.
“Usually an attacking midfielder is a little selfish but fortunately I found one that is unselfish.”
When Inter Milan came in for Deco in the summer, I actually WANTED him to leave, but now I am extremely glad that he didn’t!
