The Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is sticking to Roman Abramovich’s policy of promoting youngsters from the Chelsea academy rather than buy readymade stars, and says quite clearly that Chelsea have no need to buy Fernando Torres even if he became available.
Personally I would happily have a free bet that Ancelotti is not going to buy anyone in the next two transfer windows unless it becomes absolutely necessary!
Ancelotti said: “I always said that Torres is not our aim for the future because we have trust in a lot of young players.
“We have fantastic strikers in Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, and we have Salomon Kalou, fantastic young players like Daniel Sturridge and Gael Kakuta . So, in this moment, we don’t really need to have a striker – a fantastic striker – like Fernando Torres .”
Obviously Drogba and Anelka are not going to stay at the highest level for too much longer, but if Sturridge and Kakuta continue with their progression, then there is no reason why they can’t become just as big superstars in the future. And hopefully not as injury prone as Torres…..
