New Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has left the fans flummoxed by his quote that Chelsea are a young club, as opposed to his old team AC Milan, which seems a strange thing to say!
‘Milan have a history and a big tradition,’ he said. ‘Chelsea are a new club; a young club with young people but they have fantastic enthusiasm. I would like to create a new history and tradition for the club. It is a very important thing for me.’
Hmm, well for starters Chelsea were formed in 1906, just seven years later than AC Milan, but whether a team over 100 years old qualifies as “young”, i’m not so sure!
“A young club with young people”, now that is definitely wrong! Okay we DO have some young people in the team, but with Lampard, Carvalho, Ballack, Deco, Belletti and Drogba well past 30, and Petr Cech, Jose Bosingwa, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Michael Essien and Joe Cole all over 25, you can safely say that Chelsea could NOT be called a team of young players either.
Oh well, maybe he just thinks everyone looks young because he is 50!
