Torres is the most expensive player right now in the history of club football. Chelsea paid that much because they believe he will deliver the goods. How much wdid he cost?
He cost 50 million but he will have try to forget his debut against former club Liverpool. He had a poor display in his first appearance for Chelsea and things are made worse by the fact Liverpool took all three points from Stamford Bridge. Now the Blues are a big 10 points behind the leaders Manchester United who lost also lost on Saturday to Wolves.
In England right after the match begun the debates if Torres is overpaid, but no one can make a judgment after only one game. Besides, Torres already showed his quality in Liverpool. As he said, he came to Chelsea to win trophies, but one of them is getting further and further. However, he believes that defeat from his former club has not broken his dreams of winning the Premier League trophy: “This was a hard defeat. Liverpool played an excellent match. They might have surprised us with three men in the back and they took the advantage of it. I think the only justice result was a draw, but we are looking forward with confidence and decisiveness to fight until the end. There are more points at stake.”
After he was substituted in 66th minute, from the part of the stadium where Liverpool fans were standing came some unpleasant words like: “You should stay at real club!” However, the Spaniard doesn’t turn his back on it and looks at the bright side and how he was welcomed by Chelsea fans: “Everybody wants to win, especially if it is your first game in front of your own supporters. I will remember how they welcomed me and I thank them for it. Result is not good, but we are moving on.”
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti stood up for Torres and said: “We must give a boy some time to adapt. He wasn’t a problem in our game. We simply did not have enough space in attack because Liverpool put an excellent defense. They had three more players with defensive tasks in front of their defensive line and we couldn’t find the solution to break it.”
At the beginning of March, Chelsea will welcome Manchester United in a postponed match of Premier League. It’s just another big match for the new striker, Torres, and he can’t wait to play in that match. The best of Torres is yet to come.
