Andre Villas-Boas – “It's A Vital Week For Us”

Chelsea boss Andre Villas Boas has been speaking to the press ahead of tomorrows Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen and he realises it is a big week for the club what with a fixture against Manchester United on the horizon as well. If you ever want to learn how to bet on these games on your mobile, you should check out our recommended Football Betting Apps.

He said, “It is a very important week ahead for us and we really need to focus now on the next game which is of the utmost importance. Everybody wants to start well in the Champions League with three points, especially in a home game, and even more so because it comes before Manchester United.”

Villas-Boas went on to add, “It is a vital week for us, but we have a very good squad in all sectors and we will have to rest a few of the players in order to be able to respond. The Champions League requires a certain level, but at least we have a good four days before the Manchester United game.”

Villas-Boas made a bold decision at the weekend to drop out of form striker Fernando Torres and it paid dividends as his replacement Daniel Sturridge scored on his first start of the season. Torres could well miss out again tomorrow as Villas-Boas hinted that Sturridge may well get another start.

He said, “We had a lot of teams calling Daniel to take him on loan during the transfer window, but it was never going to happen. The technical staff and I all had the feeling we should bring him in. We have an outstanding player.”

We have two difficult games this week and it will test our squad to the full, as well as testing AVB’s selection policy to the full, but as long as Chelsea are winning does it really matter who starts up front.

    chelsea has not won champions league before because the club did not trim fast enough deadwood / under par performers, like Kalou, Mikel (not a bad player but you can see the difference with meireles), joe cole;

    and because it has never got reference strikers who can change a game like tevez, etoo, aguero;

    i always each game we lost like champions league final or recent CL games against barcelona i thought drogba could have done more! even for ivory coast he could have done more; he is a great player but somehow only got 70% of what he can; someone important at the club should have known this and do smth about it in due time;

    the way AVB goes now, playing with an excellent midfield (mata, meireles , ramires) and add more later for example the likes of modric etc, seems the way to go; now quick strikers on the shoulder of the defence like etoo, david vila, tevez, aguero, or finishers like falcao, is the way to go rather that that massive type used to break the waves like drogba, ibrahimovic, caroll, lukaku; why the heck do we need the striker to be close to 6 feet and way many stones??

    or probably if shevhenko & torres would have been what they were intended to be …

    however, if chelsea gets one wrong player,
    ok write him off and move on get a proper guy in; all teams sometimes lose lots of money on players who do not perform!!
    ** see kaka of real madrid;

    AVB, get rid of players you do not like as they will waste your time & opportunities, get those ‘live wire’ type of players that you need & like!
