Anelka gets pay rise to sign two-year deal with Shanghai Shenhua

The Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka may be 32 years of age, but he has been given yet another bumper payday when he signs for the Chinese giants Shanghai Shenhua on Jan 2nd.

It seems that that a spokesman for Shenhua has been talking to the Financial Times in England and has revealed that the deal has been agreed in full with Chelsea and Anelka and the Frenchman will be joining them in the New Year.

Their article said: The former Arsenal and Real Madrid player will play football for Shanghai Shenhua, which said on Monday it had agreed with Chelsea for the 32-year-old French player to transfer in the January 2012 transfer window to start a two-year contract.

A spokesman for the club said he could not reveal any details about the contract or how much Anelka will earn except to say that the Chinese club will pay him more than Chelsea was paying him.

Anelka is one of the world’s highest paid football players. Real Madrid signed him for £22.3m in 1999, a record fee at the time, and he had built up an aggregate transfer cost of just under £90m in at least six transfers before his latest move to Shanghai Shenhua. He transferred to Chelsea from Bolton for a reported £15m in January 2008.”

These quotes come from the highly respected Financial Times and you can read the full article at this link. And if it has been reported by them then it must be true…..
