Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal is convinced that his side is capable of breaking Mourinho’s stunning home record in the premier league. The young Spaniard points to Arsenal’s title ambitions as motivation for the North London side to put in a strong performance this weekend. A victory would see Arsenal close within 1 point of league leaders Chelsea, but many feel that a failure to get 3 points would signal an end to their title hopes.
Unfortunately for Monreal, the last person to suggest that Chelsea’s record was ready to be broken went home rather less optimistic. Tim Sherwood and his Tottenham were most recently hosted at Stamford Bridge, and went away with a stinging 4-0 defeat. When Arsenal is in top gear, they’re a scarier prospect than Tottenham have been of late, but they’re still outsiders to keep the title dreams alive. As almost 5-1 underdogs it will certainly be a huge result if Wenger’s side can get the job done.
Arsenal’s away league form has been indifferent of late, winning just 1 of their last 4 games on the road. Poor results against Southampton and Stoke saw them take just 1 point from two eminently winnable games. Despite managing to overcome a fired up Tottenham last weekend, their performance was hardly convincing.
Against this backdrop, Chelsea 75 match unbeaten record at home seems likely to continue this weekend. With Mourinho’s Chelsea generally preferring to sit back and counter against bigger sides, it will be intriguing to see which side manages to take control of the game in the opening minutes. An early goal for either side could radically change the outlook of this match and, after his wonderful strike just minutes into last week’s game with Spurs, Tomas Rosicky will be hoping for a repeat performance.
