Athletico president: Falcao not leaving 'anytime soon'

Athletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has admitted that Radamel Falcao would like to play in a different league at some point, but insists the no. 9 is currently happy and has no intention to leave.

The striker has been high on Chelsea’s wish-list for some time, and are expected to make a bid for the striker in January. Chelsea are thought to be readying a £40million bid for the Colombian to test the resolve of the cash-strapped club.

Falcao’s deal not expire until the summer of 2016 and Athletico are said to have no intention of letting a player leave who Cerezo rates as the best in the world in his position.

The president said: “He tells me he is very happy here and that he wants to honour his contract but one day, we don’t know when, he would like to try out another league.

“I know that day will come, but it won’t be anytime soon. I can say that he has told me personally that he loves being at this club.

“He is the best No.9 in the world at the moment. He is also a lovely, kind guy, and he never loses his temper.”

I hope this is a plot to get the maximum fee out of Chelsea, who would most likely be willing to meet the £48million minimum fee release clause thought to be in his contract. The question is will Falcao move? The world knows Chelsea are currently a striker (and a manager) shy of being the best team in England, and January needs to come sooner rather than later…
