Spanish club Atletico Madrid have reportedly contacted Chelsea regarding a potential move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are thought to be keen on bringing in another centre-back in the transfer window and are apparently interested in signing Atletico Madrid (yes another Atletico Madrid player) centre-back, Toby Alderweireld, who spent a season long loan at Southampton last season.
Jose Mourinho is thought to be keen on Alderweireld, with some reports saying a £7 million bid will be made, while others are suggesting that Chelsea may do a swap deal with Atletico, by sending back Filipe Luis, who they signed from Atletico last summer.
Atletico Madrid are apparently keen to take back Luis as they haven’t replaced him at left back, while they wouldn’t exactly be too bothered by letting go of a player that was sent on loan last summer and was a back up in their title winning season.
Chelsea can’t guarantee playing time to Alderweireld, which is something he wants more of a guarantee of, especially with the Euros being next year, which he will be fighting to be apart of. With Southampton interested in retaining his services, they probably are in pole position for the player. It wouldn’t be a bad transfer for Chelsea, but it would perhaps be a bit surprising.
