London seems to be cursed around this time of year, and while Arsenal has big problems with full-backs and has no less than 4 injured full-backs, across the city at the Stamford Bridge the problems are in the centre compartment.
Even Ivanovic got injured against Tottenham in the big derby and he added to the long list of unavailable centre-backs forcing manager Andres Villas-Boas to play with Jose Bosingwa in the centre next to skipper John Terry.
In these circumstances the Portuguese announced that he’s going to search the market for a centre-back and that Chelsea will transfer him as soon as the transfer season opens.
“We could have David Luiz available to return on Boxing Day,” said Villas-Boas. “But we are in the market for another centre-half and we have to respond quickly when the transfer window opens.”
Even if Villas-Boas finds a top defender it will still be a while before he’ll get accustomed to playing at Chelsea, and the best bet would be to bring somebody who’s already accustomed to the Premiership style of play, so Bolton Wonderers’ Gary Cahill seems to be the most likely candidate.
