Avram Grant to return to save Chelsea's season

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is losing sleep at the thought of leaving Rafa Benitez in control of his Chelsea team, and is reportedly re-hiring Avram Grant into a supervisory role.

Grant was sacked as Blues manager after he came within one penalty kick of lifting the Champions League back in 2008, but it is believed that he has maintained a relationship with Abramovich in the last few years and he may now be recalled by the Russian as his attempts to revive his faltering team continue to flounder.

The role the Israeli coach is said to be offered is that of a consultative position. Interim boss Rafael Benitez is unlikely to be content to work with the ex-West Ham boss in an overseeing role, so it may be that Abramovich sees him as a safe pair of hands to take over the first team once again as he waits to appoint Pep Guardiola as the permanent Chelsea boss next summer.

With Benitez yet to make his presence felt, and with the Chelsea fans gunning for his head, the appointment of Avram Grant will be wildly applauded, especially if Rafa decides he can’t work with the Israeli and leaves. Take Torres with you on your way out Rafa…
