The Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez saw his team crash out of the Europa Cup in extra time last night, and is worried that it will be difficult to get his team fully recovered to play Chelsea on Sunday lunchtime.
“I think the fixtures are fantastic, very well organised as always,” said Benitez, as sarcastically as usual. “What time do we play on Sunday, 1.30pm? What time do United play, four o’clock. Ah, so they play later.
“We will try to do our best and see how many players we have and how many of them have fresh legs.
“Sunday’s game is very important for us because we want to finish in the top four.
“But we know it also very important for Chelsea because they want to win the title, so it will be a massive game.
“Playing 120 minutes is not the best way to prepare but we will try our best to manage.”
“I understand the fans (not wanting United to win their 19th title) but we will try to win.”
Let’s hope that Liverpool don’t have the fitness or inclination to put up a fight, but if Chelsea play as well as they have lately it should be easy for them anyway!
