No doubt, Brazilian-born Spanish striker, Diego Costa has had a great debut in the English Premier League with Chelsea, but he could have had a better debut, no thanks to a recurring hamstring issue that marred his form during the second half of the season. Back in December, Costa had banged in 15 goals, but with just 3 matches to the end of the season, Costa is on 19 goals and is the team’s highest goal scorer. This has clearly pointed out to a flaw in the team’s attack department, and the club is ready to spend 30 million pounds to fix it.
Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke has been seen as perfect competition for Costa, and Chelsea is ready to bring him to Stamford bridge. The Belgian was recently voted as the Barclay’s player of the month for April. With 5 goals in 4 matches, a hattrick and ending up as the league’s highest goal scorer for the last month, Benteke has been on his finest form for club, and this has attracted the pensioners. The 24 year-old has 11 goals in his last 9 matches, after a poor start of 3 goals in the earlier 31 matches.
With Drogba and Remy likely to depart at the end of the season, Benteke will be available to shed off pressure from Costa and also serve as a key striker. Benteke also had his own share of injury this season, but that hasn’t stopped him from delivering when it mattered most. He has helped put the his club safely out of relegation zone, and has been of great importance to the Tim Sherwood-led team. Mourinho sees the burly striker as a perfect replacement for Didier Drogba, and he is keen on having him in his side. Chelsea now have to beat off fierce competition from Liverpool in order to land the striker in Stamford bridge by next summer.
