Chelsea fumbling vice-captain and right-back Branisalav Ivanovic has stated recently his desire to stay at Stamford Bridge and slug it out with the rest of the players there.
The Serbian’s contract will be expiring at the end of the season and he has been hoping for a new contract from Chelsea but the Blues have declined offering him a new contract and it is widely expected that the team will not be needing him beyond this season but will likely be looking for his replacement as soon as the January transfer window.
Although several reports have been making claims that the defender is already wanted by several clubs and they will all move in on him when his contract expires in the summer but it looks like the defender is not ready to move away from Stamford Bridge just yet and is hoping that the Blues will soon offer him a new contract.
Speaking to the media ahead of Chelsea’s travel to Leicester City in their English Premier League match, Ivanovic said he is happy at Chelsea and is firmly hoping for a new contract as soon as possible.
“Honestly, I am so happy [here].” “I am trying to do my best. I know I didn’t start the season well, but I am back.”
“I hope the result will be good for the team. In that case, I will be good as well. I hope and I think we will have time to speak about my future.”
It is not sure at this point if Chelsea will be offering him a new contract but if they do, it will make sense to have him as backup for the right back position. Although reports claim the Serbian will sign a new contract worth £95,000 a week but his recent poor performance might have made Chelsea to have a change of mind.
