Captain Terry On Benayoun And Meireles

Yossi Benayoun left Chelsea on Wednesday evening and was replaced by Raul Meireles. John Terry has been speaking to the press about the clubs business on transfer deadline day and he had mixed emotions about the deals completed.

Speaking about Benayoun he said, “I was very sad. I didn’t realise how good he was until I trained with him day in day out. With the injury he picked up last year, he was quite unfortunate really because I felt as though he had a lot to give to the Chelsea side this year. Unfortunately he has gone on loan. We all wish him well. Hopefully he can get the run of games he deserves.”

When he was asked about Meireles arriving from Liverpool he said, “I was surprised. It was very late. He is a very good player. I spoke to Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll and they stressed how good he was. Andre has coached him before. We missed out on the Modric one and he will come in in that very similar role so I’m very excited about what’s happening at Chelsea with the players we have brought in.”

So Benayoun has gone and it remains to be seen if he ever plays for Chelsea again, but with Raul Meireles arriving along with Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku it promises to be a good year at Stamford Bridge.
